Catanduanes island is located in the easternmost part of the Bicol peninsula, separated from the mainland Bicol by the Maqueda Channel and the Lagonoy Gulf. Catanduanes, which they also call, “An Eco-Adventure Paradise,” is for those who like nature at its best. The whole strip of this pearly island of the Pacific is almost untouched, unblemished, and unexplored.
Puraran beach is a promising surfing site in the town of Baras. It is the home of the well-known “Majestic” waves with its awesome long-barrel-type surf.
I and my travel buddies decided to explore this intriguing wonders of the Philippines. October 27, 2010 was our flight going to Virac, Catanduanes, we booked this 8 months before the said date. We are 9 passengers actually but unfortunately my other buddies were unable to have their leaves. So we, my very constant travel buddies to continue even we’re just 4 (Ann didn’t made it, because she was in Boracay).
Still cebupacific airlines, we bought our tickets (back and forth) for PhP1500 all-in. It was funny because we can’t see Joemar coz he don’t have a mobile phone:). Good thing Jeylan went upstairs at NAIA and searched the whole area and found Joemar. For the last minute we did checked-in. It was an hour trip.
Finally we reached Virac Airport; again, nature was really gentle on us, another shower of blessings (it’s raining again
)
We rode a tricycle going to terminal for PhP20/head. Very hungry, we ate at Sea Breeze Restaurant; it was Jeylan’s treat, co’z he’s insisting to eat there! And since it was their 9th year anniversary last Sept 13, after 15minutes of begging him, finally he said YES!
It was awesome and yummy! We ate soup, chicken and chopsuey for only PhP650 all-in!
After the unforgettable lunch, we went inside the Baras Transit, we have to wait until this giant jeepney’s overflowing with people and packages. It’s been 2hours long until we finally move out of the terminal. Even the roof of the jeepney was crowded by people and packages.
After a long long mountain and farm sighted trip, finally we reached Baras Municipal at 2pm the fare was PhP35/head. We rode a tricycle going to Puraran Beach at PhP150 for the all of us. Another heart-taking mountain ride.
We arrived in Puraran, the beach was wavy and scary! I don’t know how to swim and I think I can’t really swim in this place. We chose Majestic Beach Resort, there are only two resorts here, and the other was Puraran Beach Resort. We had a 2bedroom for only PhP400/night. Irene, the owner told us directly that we can’t swim because there was an American guy who drowns while surfing. The nature loves us, another spoiler typhoon followed us.
The boys were practicing to assemble the newly tent Jeylan has bought. Hmmm it was too small! I wonder how he can put his giant backpack inside.
Ok we can’t swim, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t see the beach. We went near the seashore, it was really wild, I guess the floor was 45 degrees because the wave was really high, or maybe because typhoon was about to hit us.
When the water hit the shore, amazing beach foam was formed; it was like a fluffy mocha. It was awesome! I don’t know how it was made but I don’t care! That’s nature!
When we went back to our cottage, there’s nothing to do, but to watch Hangover movie while getting drunk (again). It was raining so hard outside and I am pathetically imagining a tidal wave may happen (hahahaha! I’m getting paranoid). While watching, I notice a normal lizard ran at the ceiling, after that, there’s another one followed the lizard, and I swear to God It was really huge! I screamed and went to the other side. Jeylan grabbed his camera and take a shot of this giant lizard (gecko). Our tipsiness were gone because of that creature. And sad to say, I can’t even sleep (getting paranoid again).
Morning of October 28, we decided to leave the place because weren’t allowed to swim still. So we paid Ate Irene for the room rent and planned to go to Caramoan Islands
But we took a last shot of the place
We didn’t really enjoyed the beach because of the typhoon, but we are looking forward to visit this place once more
