Another mythical place we’ve been was Luyang Cave. It is located at Lictin, San Andress, Catanduanes.
From Kudon Port, we hired a tricycle going to Marem Pension House, but we requested to drop us first in Luyang Cave.
When we reached the place, no one’s there. We are looking for someone who can guide us, but we failed we are the only people that moment. We went downstairs, Oh I forgot to tell you guys that my legs were in deep pain because of the 524 stairs of Lady of Peace in Caramoan. I am unskilled in trekking but I am willing to learn it. So that’s why I look so moron in this picture. Ahaha!
As I went inside the cave, I felt the air turns colder. Hmmm scarry! That’s why I preferred to stay outside, Nina stayed with me. But Jeylan and Jomar continued. So Nina and I just looked around the place. We saw a river maybe 30 meters deep. The place was quite relaxing and nice.
After 15minutes, they went out and Jeylan said “It’s getting colder and we heard a strange noise”. We all knew that there’s no light in a cave right? You have to use a flashlight to look around. But here are some photos they took inside the cave.
After that, we went inside the tricycle and continue our trip going to hotel. When we reached Marem, I paid PhP200 to the driver, but he insisted PhP500, we argued and told him that I will never give him that. Then he said PhP400 will do. We fought for about 10minutes, I gave him PhP400 just to stop the fight and my buddies were getting irritated to the driver.
When I went to hotel I made a research about this place. It said that the cave was mute witness and tomb to the massacred natives who fled from the Moro pirates during the 17th century. The natives sought refuge inside Luyang but the marauders traced them. The Moros uprooted sili (red pepper) plants teeming near the cave, added dried leaves, stuffed them in the cave entrance, and set the cave afire, suffocating the hapless natives. To appease their troubled souls, a mini-grotto and altar were built inside. In memory of this massacre, a “Requiem Mass” is said every April 28 of the year.
Hmmm… maybe that’s why I was very scared.

Hi, nice website and articles. I’m thinking of going in this place with my hubby, How do I get here from Sta Rosa, Laguna?
Thanks Abbey!
Sorry for my late reply, you can get there by an airplane going to Virac, Catanduanes. From there, ride a tricycle going to Luyang Cave
